You have to link pins 9 and 15. It's very useful to upgrade with this method as you don't have to hold reset button anymore. For your detection problem you should upgrade to latest firmware.

There are a lot of poorly made HDMI cables on the market that only have 16 wires connected.
It's near impossible to tell till you do a continuity test on the pins.

I've routed my HDMI leads to neutrik connectors also but I made a new lead coming from the Bliss Box which i soldered to the reset points and attached to 4 external buttons so as to avoid hacking HDMI leads or buying $40 of HDMI breakouts.

Next thing to do is get two 25pole double throw rotary switches and make 2 true analog HDMI switches out of them so I can switch between the arcade cp and the bb ports for player 1 and 2.

DB25 switch boxes have these rotary switches in them, they are otherwise expensive and hard to find.
I got 2 boxes delivered for $25
